Dragonball Evolution

Release date: April 10, 2009

The Pitch:

A young martial artist must collect a set of seven magical orbs that will grant their wielder unlimited power.

Why You Need It:

Any attempt to capture the maniacal insanity of Akira Torayama's manga and anime masterpiece Dragon Ball in live-action format is highly daunting, but having legendary Hong Kong director Stephen Chow in the producer's seat is a good start. Chow made his bones with over-the-top kung fu actioners like Shaolin Soccer, and Dragonball Evolution runs with what made those films great - balls-out wire-fu craziness with some CGI sprinkled on top. Throw in Chow Yun-Fat and you're in business, buddy. Managing to capture the feel of the anime without being overly cartoonish, Dragonball Evolution is a fine addition to the franchise.

Talent:

James Wong (director), Justin Chatwin, James Marsters, Emmy Rossum, Chow Yun-Fat, Jamie Chung, Joon Park, Randall Duk Kim, Eriko Tamura, Ernie Hudson, Texas Battle.
