The Activator possessed that curious '80s quality of futuristic packaging and woefully limited functionality -- like the laser disc or 3D movies. Intended for games like Mortal Kombat, the Activator relied on beams of light that would respond when interrupted by a player's movement. The problem started when the Activator was introduced into a room that didn't have a completely flat ceiling or, egads, a ceiling fan! Needless to say, Sega's first foray into the peripheral world was met with a resounding thud.
That doesn't mean someone wouldn't love it as a gift. Activators arent' easy to find but if you can get your hands on and the person you have in mind is right, they're are worth their weight in chits.
