Cars are only a necessity in NYC when you need one... like to pick up stuff at Ikea or Costco. This means that Zipcars (think cars on demand) are a blessing for any New Yorker who's spending three quarters of their paycheck on their rent. Use the app to locate and schedule a car only when you need it. And don't worry: gas and insurance are covered, but it's up to you to come up with something awesome to do within 90 miles of the city (there's a 180 mile per day limit).

Usually reserved for the most experienced of subway riders, Exit Strategy puts some of the most important (and trivial) knowledge about NYC's underground rail right at your fingertips. The entire point of the app is to help you know where to stand on the subway platform so that upon your departure you'll be close to either the exit or the transfer you are looking for. That's it. It's simple, but, depending on how often you ride the subway, it could save you a few minutes every ride.
