Patriotic Moments in Wrestling

One of the few real-life people to ever be immortalized as a G.I. Joe figure, the burly Sergeant Slaughter kept the wrestling rings of America safe against a motley crew of foreign malcontents including Nikolai Volkoff and Col. DeBeers. With his trademark Cobra Clutch and Atomic Noogie. The take-no-crap Slaughter cut an imposing figure in the ring. But it was his landmark series of matches against the hated Iron Shiek in 1984 that put this patriotic defender of the American Way on the map. Shiek took every opportunity to taint Americans for their perceived softness, and eked out many a win over Slaughter by treachery and low means. However, at the end of their feud the Sarge emerged victorious, in a Boot Camp match in front of a sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden. America once again stood triumphant, with the rapacious forces of the Middle East put in their place for good.
