Watching zombies eat peoples' brains, and watching beautiful women trying to stop them from doing it, is fun, there's no doubt. But when it comes to getting our jollies with the undead, nothing compares to picking up a gamepad and taking the fight to those shambling monsters ourselves. Thankfully, the video game world has provided us with ample opportunity to do so. Now, as the Zombie Guide continues, we take a look back at some of the best virtual zombie-fighting experiences we've had in the world of gaming.
DOOM
The game that launched a genre was also one of the first to put you right in among the zombie hordes, fighting for your very survival. And these guys weren't your average, everyday civilians. No, the undead in DOOM were space Marines (which, we all know, are the toughest Marines there are). They were brought back to a shambling, infernal life by the demonic force that was unleashed upon the Phobos base by scientists toying with powers mankind was not meant to comprehend. They could handle firearms and, when gathered in numbers, were a thorn in the side of any well-meaning one-man army. Fortunately, it's nothing a few well-placed shots from a rocket launcher or BFG couldn't handle.
