Tron's Pop Culture Legacy

If you thought the computer hacker cult film Tron's been out of the limelight for the last twenty years, think again.  The MCP is a heck of a lot more mainstream then you think!

Cheech and Chong in Tron

WIth its bright, glowing neon color scheme and now-retro CG effects, Tron is known as something of a..."trip".

Cheech & Chong took the idea one step further for Mean Magazine's Cinemash series, bringing their particular brand of psychadelic humor to the game grid.  Sark would not have been happy with the antics of stoner programs.

3D is Scary and Fat

In The Simpsons episode "Treehouse of Horror VI" Homer was sucked into an alternate dimension, and a bit bewildered by the whole three-dimensional thing.  When asked to describe his surroundings, Homer asks, "Did anyone see the movie Tron?"

Everyone's answer: "no."  Except for Chief Wiggum, who realizes having seen Tron is one of the more embarrassing admissions a person can make.  Fair enough.

Chuck's Tron Poster

While the show took awhile to find its rhythm, Chuck quickly won serious nerd cred with the appearance of an original Tron poster in Chuck's bedroom.

Scary to think we have Josh Schwartz, the creator of The O.C. and Gossip Girl to thank for that nod!  Now if only he'd drop those kind of references in those shows.

Daft Punk's 2009 Grammy Performance

Kanye West's 2007 album Graduation featured the song "Stronger", a hip-hop song built around the recognizable Daft Punk song "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger".  Fans of both groups were treated to a flashy performance of the song at the 2008 Grammy Awards...and hints of Daft Punk's involvement with Tron Legacy were more than apparent.

Never has the connection between DJing and driving a Recognizer seemed more apparent...and cool.
