Of the many, many things that were wrong with Transformers 2, perhaps the most
unforgivable was the sorry state of the film's script, rushed through the
production process to meet a pre-scheduled start-date. Sub-par for even a
Michael Bay movie, the script boasted an utterly incoherent story, virtually no
level of character development, about 30 pages of completely unnecessary
material and two robot sidekicks who managed to make Jar Jar Binks look about
as eloquent and engaging as Hannibal Lecter.
And apparently the script for the third movie is now
complete, at least according to MTV. The site caught up with Josh Duhamel at
ShoWest where the actor confirmed that he'd received the script for the film
and was actually impressed with its content.
"I just read it yesterday," he said. "Some
really cool stuff happens....They put a lot of time and thought into this. What I
think is really cool is they really went back into the history of the
'Transformers' and they really didn't make anything up. They're using stuff
that actually existed in the story from before."
Always good to hear that the filmmakers are returning to the
core mythology of the franchise; sad, however, that Duhamel wouldn't confirm
the presence of Dinobots.
Also announced today on Michael Bay's official site...
John Malkovich, Frances McDormand and Ken Jeong have officially been cast in the sequel. McDormand will serve as the National Intelligence Director; Malkovich will play Shia's boss and Jeong will represent the film's comic relief. With any luck, he won't play a scene next to the scrotum of a giant robot.
