IGN caught up with the future director of Thor and got him to spill this:
"Well, I'm working currently on Thor for Marvel and we're planning that one. We're having a great time at the moment. We're in intense pre-production," Branagh said. "I shoot Thor in January of next year and because the time of release has been moved, it's allowed me to have a moment in the summer where I can shoot the Wallanders." He added, "And, strangely, there's a weird, pleasing connection between the Swedish Wallander and the Nordic Thor. And as I've played a lot of Danish Hamlets, I feel as though my Scandinavian trilogy is forming." Branagh also confirmed that his award-winning Wallander co-star Tom Hiddleston is in the running for a role in Thor. "Tom Hiddleston is a great actor and he, amongst a number of others, has been part of the group we've spoken to and all that's still a work in progress."
So, I did some searching on this Tom Hiddleston guy and am hoping that Branagh is smart enough to know that Hiddleston doesn't quite seem to fit the Asgardian mold.
Really, if this is the new face of Thor, I might have to sit this one out. At no point do I think "God of Thunder" when I look at this feeble man. Thankfully, nowhere does Branagh say that he will in fact be Thor, so I'm thinking maybe he could make a good fit for Loki. I dunno, what do you think?
My choice for Thor is still going to be better than whoever it will be. Sorry Kenneth. I don't see them casting anyone nearly Nordic enough to play the big man, though i could be wrong. To do this right you definitely need to get out of the Hollywood mindset and try using some new talent. When these characters are so recognizable, I absolutely think the rest of the film should be able to make up for the lack of a big lead star, and at least you know for the sequel he will have gained that popularity.
UPDATE!
According to Marvel, Tom Hiddleston WILL be playing Loki.
