The A-Team's Joe Carnahan Tries His Hand at Survival Horror

Sadly, it will not star Mr. T., either.

Variety (via Dark Horizons) announced that director Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces) will follow up his The A-Team movie with a survival horror film called The Grey. The film follows a crew of Alaskan oil pipeline workers whose plane crash lands. The group must now survive the cold weather and a group of man-eating wolves. Bradley Cooper, who stars in Carnahan's The A-Team as Lt. "Faceman" Peck, will star.

The project comes as a bit of a surprise considering Carnahan's previous projects, as it doesn't seem like the kind of film that would let his characteristic spazzy energy shine through. His critically praised debut Narc is relatively toned-down despite its bombastic, gritty black humor. But Smokin' Aces is a full-on valentine to the comic book-style of action choreography that Luc Besson made his career out of. The trailer for The A-Team looks like more of what you would expect from Carnahan: '80s super-team camaraderie and sizeable explosions. Which may be why Carnahan is taking a break from doing his usual thing with The Grey. Maybe he's a big fan of Adam Green's Frozen, specifically its man-eating wolves? One thing's for sure: if The Grey has the eensiest bit of Carnahan's typical giddy lack of self-restraint, viewers should expect a Who's Nailin' Palin to pop up immediately in the film's first act.
