The Hollywood Reporter has a story this AM stating that the long-in-development A-Team project has some new life in it. And that life is Joe Carnahan directing and Tony Scott producing.
Yeah - that all makes sense. I say go for it.
For years John Singleton was schlepping the project around (we even reviewed the script) but it never materialized. With the might of Scott Free productions behind it, Fox's projected June 11, 2010 release date sounds like a realizable goal.
A few words about Joe Carnahan. There's a reason he's someone whose name is always tossed about, despite having made so few films. The guy is a movie genius. Years ago, I actually spent some quality time with the dude. In fact, I think I may have been the first person ever to interview him. He was just starting his career and transitioning from wide-eyed cinema enthusiast to Hollywood insider. The guy is an encyclopedia of film and a very sharp guy. For some reason, he's just had some bad luck getting projects off the ground (Killing Pablo has been in development forever) or having his chain jerked for a year and a half on Mission: Impossible III. Frankly, I wasn't the biggest fan of Smokin' Aces, but it may have been more the fault of oversaturation of that type of movie than the movie itself. Carnahan and The A-Team? Yeah, that's a match made in heaven.
Below, another quality A-Team adaptation followed by Joe Carnahan's BMW commercial, uh, I mean, segment of The Hire.
