DC Comics may still not have everything mapped out for a crossover film universe, but there's a few "peripheral" comic book projects in the works with the upcoming The Losers, Jonah Hex and, potentially, Swamp Thing, which Joel Silver has recently added to his "to do" list. Now, MTV's Splashpage brings word straight from Splice director Vincenzo Natali that he's interested in going after the property.

As a franchise, Swamp Thing actually has bears some interesting similarities to The Toxic Avenger which, just yesterday, announced its return to the big screen via state of the art reimagining. Both feature characters turned into big green monsters, turned sort of superhero and both had multiple films in the mid 1980's which later became early 90's Saturday morning cartoons.

Unlike Toxie, though, it could be argued that the real great Swamp Thing story has never been told on film. The dark, brooding twist the series' character took around the time time of Wes Craven's '82 film turned the comic world's spotlight on up-and-comer Alan Moore.

Moore's take on Swamp Thing basically retconned the character into a plant elemental with the memories of scientist Alex Olsen rather than being Olsen himsef. According to the MTV interview, that's the version that has caught Natali's eye.

From the look of it, Splice is prepped to hit precisely the Cronenbergian nerve that could make Swamp Thing something really special.  What's more, every single Moore story checked off the adaptation list brings us closer and closer to a big screen version of Lost Girls
