That's how Johansson landed the part of Grace MacLean in the Robert Redford adaptation of The Horse Whisperer. When the film was released in May 1998, Scarlett Johansson was only 13 years old. Ads for the movie billed the star as "Introducing Scarlett Johansson" even though she had been working in Hollywood for years. But The Horse Whisperer truly introduced audiences to this young, upstart beauty of an actress. Johansson's role in the movie was enough to earn critical praise from many sectors of the industry. Johansson also picked-up a YoungStar Award for Best Performance by a Young Actress in a Drama Film, meaning Johansson was on the fast track to superstardom.
