Scariest Hotels

We collect the list of top scary hotels.

"Oh, we have 12 vacancies. 12 cabins, 12 vacancies." - Norman Bates

Want to get out of your house this holiday season but don't have a lot of cash? Book a room at that crappy hotel down the street!  So what if you can see your house from the window? A vacation is a vacation. Just because most businesses are too busy filing Chapter 11 to slap a couple wreaths to the wall doesn't mean you don't deserve a little holiday cheer. And, thanks to this crippling economic crisis, hotel rooms are on the cheap. Why not take advantage of it?

Hotel dos Mille Collines

Appeared in Hotel Rwanda

No doubt about it, the Hotel dos Mille Collines was, for a few months back in 1994, the scariest hotel on the entire planet. There were no ghosts, no goblins and no serial killers stalking the halls for victims, just a handful of terrified Tutsi families hiding from an army of murderous Hutu militants. Every day they lived in fear of discovery by men who hack them to death because they were seen as subhuman. It goes without saying that the Rwandan genocide was truly horrific - it claimed some 800,000 lives. Scary.

The Hotel dos Mille Collines remains open today and is a chilling reminder of what took place in this troubled nation, as well as a reminder of how men like manager Paul Rusesabagina (played by Don Cheadle in the film) can instill hope in humanity at a time where hope seems all but lost.
