Further Adventures of Captain Pike

This officer's seen a lot more of the universe then his short Original Series stint.

Captain Pike is a mysterious figure who is sewn into the Trek Universe like a golden thread. In The Original Series he seems to be a pretty good captain.  Yet, just as we were introduced to Pike, he is taken away from us and sent to live his life on the illusionary-laden planet Talos IV (the only planet that Starfleet barred by penalty of death).  Lucky for us though, secondary sources more then adequately fill in the gaps of Pike knowledge.

These are the further adventures of the man named Christopher R. Pike...

Pike's First Ship was the USS Yorktown

Mutiny rules!

In the TOS novel, Burning Dreams, we learn that Pike's first ship was not the Enterprise, but a ship called the USS Yorktown. While a Lt. Commander on the USS Aldrin, Pike mutinied against his commanding officer, Captain Kamnach, who had attacked another vessel unprovoked. Because the cause of the rebellion was righteous, mutiny charges against Pike were dropped and he was promoted to Captain. Starfleet is awfully forgiving for things like mutiny, but land on a planet where all your dreams come true and it’s off with your head.
