Vitals

After a week of playing on the big screen, a high quality version of the second Avatar trailer has finally been delivered to the interweb (sorry, guy with a video camera in the back of the movie theater).  Clocking in at a lengthy 3:30, the trailer is a spoiler heavy sequence focusing on the human's mission on Pandora and the subsequent insurgence of Na'vi natives.  Halfway through the trailer Giovanni Ribisi tells Sigourney Weaver's Dr. Grace Augustine that she was supposed to find a diplomatic way to avoid war.  Guess what?  Doesn't happen.

But it's one heck of a battlefield.  We get a glimpse at everything here: mechwarriors, gattling guns, Scorpion choppers, Na'vi riding pterodactyls, and a giant tree plummeting to the ground that probably represents peace or something.  If anything was missing, it was that signature everything's-gone-to-hell-and-I'm-screaming line.  Yeah, Sam Worthington's Jake gets to unleash his battlecry, but where was the "FIRE EVERYTHING"?  I guess not every movie can be Star Trek.

So will Avatar live up to be the 3D Dances With Wolves in space?  Or is it really just 9-foot Smurfs defending the lost jungle of FernGully?  Tell us in the comments!  And don't forget to keep on top of all the Avatar news on the spoiler page.

You can watch the trailer in HD over at YahooAvatar hits theaters in 3D on December 18th.
