We had a glimpse of it at San Diego Comic-Con, but now, we've finally worked our way to the front of the line and experienced Fox's immersive Alien experience here at New York Comic-Con!
Fans step inside a Weyland-Yutani branded space pod, where they're trapped on their journey back to the Alien universe. The experience isn't for the claustrophobic - recruits lay down in their pods, the doors shut and the montage of crisp Blu-ray footage kicks in on your own personal monitor.
The footage was a steady mix of xenomorph scares and kills from the four films (AVP and AVP:R are not getting the love this time around) and watching a chestburster protruding from a man's chest cavity has never looked so crystal clear. The real treat is upgraded audio: the surround sound, especially in the enclosed pod, was spine-tingling (perhaps even spine-shattering). Blast the alien squealing and cries of pain through your loud speakers and your neighbors will wonder if you've gone into business with Michael Vick.
With an Alien prequel, it's refreshing to see the classic films, especially Alien and Aliens, come back to life on Blu. The footage they screened on their booth's large monitor looked even better, which makes me think that the ideal viewing experience for this box set will be the comfort of your own couch, and not a statsis pod on your way from Thedus to Earth.
The Alien Anthology Blu-ray his shelves October 26th.
