Respected Novelist To Write Movie Based On A Disney Theme Park

Michael Chabon, the author of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, has agreed to write Magic Kingdom, directed by Jon Favreau and based on the famous Disney theme park of the same name.

Jon Favreau has long been attached as the director of Disney's Magic Kingdom, said to be similar to Night at the Museum, but set in the iconic Disney theme park. The film's script was originally written by Ron Moore, best known for reimagining Battlestar Galactica, but the movie's direction has since changed, and the studio has nabbed itself a new writer: Michael Chabon.

Though he's a respected novelist, Chabon is no stranger to fantastical genre material, with his most famous novel, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, drawing heavily upon the history of American superhero comics. Chabon also wrote much of what ended up on screen for Spider-Man 2, and has worked on both the Snow White project The Order of the Seven and John Carter for Disney.

Does anyone really need to see "It's a Small World" on the big screen?

According to the Hollywood Reporter, both Favreau and Chabon are said to be big disney fans and aficionado, with the two spending time at Magic Kingdom together on a trip that would most likely be described as halfway between "weird" and "adorable." Magic Kingdom is still very early on in its development, so it could be a while before you're treated to that obligatory, mugging Johnny Depp cameo during the Pirates of the Caribbean sequence.
