By the look of things, Best Worst Movie, the hilarious-looking documentary about the phenomenon that is Troll 2, will be this year's big populist doc du jour. Like last year's Anvil! The Story of Anvil, Best Worst Movie is a movie that encourages its audience to become part of its subject's cult of fans. Which is fitting considering that Troll 2 is about as cultish as contemporary cult movies get. After Plan 9 from Outer Space and Manos: The Hands of Fate, Troll 2 is most likely the most infamously terrible no-budget genre movie out there. It has spread by word of mouth and hand-to-hand from diehard fans for a great reason: it really is so bad it's great.

It's very exciting to see that Area23A, Best Worst Movie's distributors, understand that and are releasing the film with a roadshow format. The film will kick off a national tour of limited engagements at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, TX, which is fitting considering how instrumental the Drafthouse and Fantastic Fest, the genre film festival that's hosted there every year, has been in culling together an audience for both the doc and Troll 2.

Area23A have also released wisely released a new trailer that emphasizes the role that fans have played in putting Troll 2 on the map. It's not so much about the film itself as it is about the collective memories fans have of a something that they all slavishly worship. While that may hit a little too close to home, the execution of it looks great. Here's when Best Worst Movie is coming to a theater near you.
