What went down at SDCC: We were all ready for some great Hobbit follow-up or a that-makes-sense Doctor Strange reveal. Wrong.
First Guillermo del Toro reveals he's producing a new version of Haunted Mansion for Disney. Then, days after Comic-Con ends, it's announced he's teaming up with James Cameron to realize his long-awaited adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness. Insanity! But good insanity.
So obviously we'll learn more at NYCC, right?
New Predictions:
Guillermo del Toro takes stage dressed as Cthulhu to pimp the movie: 80%
Guillermo del Toro interrupts less interesting panel (while dressed as Cthulhu) to pimp the movie: 70%
Announcement of H.P. Lovecraft-branded HP Sauce for sale at concession stand. Three British people applaud: 7%
James Cameron shows up to remind us that 3D is the "new color": 100%
Hellboy 3! Maybe?: 0%
The movie's first announcement ends up being the movie's last announcement: 50%
What went down at SDCC: Green Lantern kicked off a busy Comic-Con Saturday with a first look at footage of the film and Reynolds reciting the GL oath a/k/a the most adorable Youtube video of all time. It would have been one of the biggest highlights of the day...if only they had played the footage more than once. Cheap! At least they revealed Sinestro on a poster...
New NYCC Predictions:
Geoff Johns name-dropping obscure members of the Green Lantern Corps that has our mouths watering: 80%
A replay of the SDCC footage: 90%
Fans eager to see it a second time after the footage ends: 100%
Playing the footage a second time: 1%
Mark Effing Strong in full Sinestro make-up (c'mon a guy can dream): 30%
What went down at SDCC: Nothing, besides leaving our spidey senses cold and un-tingling. The announcement was made that Andrew Garfield would take on the role of Peter Parker in the reboot a few weeks prior to the event, but no luck squeezing out any more supporting players over the weekend.
New NYCC Predictions:
Andrew Garfield and director Marc Webb make a "here we are!" announcement at the Sony panel: 70%
Andrew Garfield swings on a piece of fishing wire from the Empire State Building to the Javits Center announcing, "I'm your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man!": 20%
Relative unknown but distractingly good-looking girl announced as Mary Jane: 40%
Older New York-based theater actor known only to the elderly and NYU theater majors announced as The Lizard: 60%
A new Spider-Man logo in front of a NYC skyline . . .and that's it (a/k/a "STFU Internet, we'll tell you when we're ready to make announcements"): 90%
What went down at SDCC: The movie was only a few weeks into its shoot, but count on Jon Favreau to show up anyway and rile up the Comic-Con crowd. Armed with the entire cast (including a handcuffed Harrison Ford) and impressive, old-school footage, Favs swept Hall H up and nearly stole the Con.
New NYCC Predictions:
Another, calmer appearance by Jon Favreau: 40%
A peek at the aliens' design: 50%
Another round of Daniel Craig acting like a total badass while wielding alien tech: 90%
Pony rides: 0% - 15% [if you don't believe it will happen, it won't!]
What went down at SDCC: Transformers has never had a strong presence at SDCC (besides maybe the massive amounts of toys), but we can't help but feel let down by the complete lack of Autobot/Decepticon smashing in San Diego. Nobody could convince Michael Bay to swing by with a few shots instead of an hour of trailers?
New NYCC Predictions:
Explosions: 70%
Mudflap and Skids booth babes: 0%
Megan Fox joins Transmorphers 3 at opposing panel: 40%
More Explosions: 5000000%
More merging of memory with the Allspark: 60%
