A frequent gripe amongst cinephiles regarding the 2006 film 300 was that the whole production was just too dry and grounded. Fortunately, the producers of 300 have heard your plaintive cries, and by way of response, they, like Zeus upon Mount Olympus, have handed down Tarsem Singh's Immortals.
Very loosely based upon "Original Badass" Theseus (before he got all lovey dovey with Hippolyta), Immortals looks like 300 after drinking one more FourLoko than it should, which is to say one FourLoko. We mean that in the best possible way, however, as the film combines the earlier flick's hyper-real video game aesthetic with Greek mythology, bullet-time and magicky type stuff. Frankly, it's what Clash of the Titans should have been, and stars Henry Cavill, who will be playing Superman in Zack Snyder's upcoming Man of Steel.
Immortals will hit theaters on November 11, 2011, but in the meantime, check out the trailer below and make sure to tell us whether you think it will live up to 300, or just end up looking like this year's Clash of the Titans.
