If you're anything like us, way back in March you looked at Jordan Hoffman's review of Attack the Block and rolled your eyes, saying, "Pshaw! Another foreign-made genre film? I'll stick to the homegrown stuff, thanks. USA! USA! USA!" Well, it's time to quit swinging that American flag around, because a new red band trailer for the film has been released and it looks totally bitching.
Attack the Block is the first directorial effort of British comedian Joe Cornish, and is about a group of bad inner city London kids who come face to face with an alien invasion. The trailer shows a fair bit of the film, including several long shots of the aliens and a lot of the movie's jokes and gags. So, if you're one of those tabula rasa filmgoers you might want to steer clear.
If you do skip the trailer though, be forewarned, you're also missing pull quotes from UGO's very own Jo-Hoff, who will assure everyone watching the trailer, as well as random people along the street that the movie is "A Dazzling action-adventure comedy!" and "This year's District 9." So, it looks like Attack the Block starts off being a mockumentary but gives up on the conceit halfway through. ZING!
Why wouldn't you take advice from this guy?
Attack the Block is cast with folks who are mostly unknown this side of the Atlantic, but one familiar face will be that of Nick Frost. Being that the flick opens in US theaters on July 29, the same weekend as another extraterrestial movie, Cowboys & Aliens, we'll finally get an answer to that age-old question: Who do people like more, the studly guy from Casino Royale or the fat guy from Shaun of the Dead? Decide for yourself by checking out the trailer below:
