While there have been comics based on John Carter of Mars going back to the 1930s, Edgar Rice Burroughs' interplanetary badass is really more of a pulp character than a comic book hero, but we doubt that will get in Disney's way of pushing the everloving bejeezus out of it at San Diego Comic-Con. In fact, though the film doesn't come out until March of next year, the studio has already started that push, releasing an official poster via Apple's movie trailers site.
There's not much to be gleaned from this first bit of promotion, except the fact that star Taylor Kitsch will be keeping his his hunky long hair and showing off his hunky chest as the eponymous hero. Also interesting is that whie the film's official name is just John Carter, the big giant red letters on the poster, "JCM" presumably stand for "John Carter of Mars." We're really just stretching at this point though, so take a look for yourself:

There's kind of a lot neat about the new John Carter flick, because not only is it based on a bunch of bitching old Edgar Rice Burroughs stories, but it's got a pretty solid cast including Kitsch (Friday Night Lights), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) and our favorite killer film heel, Mark Strong (Green Lantern). Expect to cry your eyes out at least once.
