Rumors sometimes turn true.
As was speculated, Natalie Portman will play Jane Foster in Kenneth Branagh's film version of the Marvel comic Thor, says Entertainment Weekly.
While she is usually in the medical field (in the early comics a nurse, more recently a doctor) it remains to be seen just how she’ll fit into this new movie. It has been established that this version of Thor will not involve the alter ego of Dr. Donald Blake – and that only some of the movie takes place in “our time on Earth.” So it looks like Portman’s version of Foster could be just about anything.
Some people inexplicably dislike Portman, but I think she’s a great casting choice. Thor, as a property, is not particularly known outside of hardcore comics fans. Chris Hemsworth, fantastic in the Star Trek pre-title sequence as James T. Kirk’s father, is not a name that yet draws any attention. Portman is not just Geek Royalty (Queen of Naboo, if you’ve forgotten) but is also a household name. Even if Foster is a slapped-on love interest with hardly any screen time, she’ll do wonders for the project just appearing in the poster.
