For some strange reason, one of my all time favorite horror films is the 1981 slasher My Bloody Valentine. There's something so basic and transparent about it you can practically see the cigar chomping producers spitting out its one sentence premise from behind a desk. MBV was one of the first pictures to appear just as '80s slashers were becoming ubiquitous and therefore wins some sort of prize as an original copycat. I also like that it never inspired a slew of ever more ridiculous sequels. The mythology of the murderous undead (I think) coal minder Harry Warden was a simple one-shot.

My Bloody Valentine also had a cool poster - a man in a coal miner's mask with dripping blood. You know what else has a cool poster? The forthcoming remake My Bloody Valentine 3-D, coming out Jan. 16th 2009. And one of the coolest things about it is that you can see it exclusively on UGO.

Feb '09 brings us the remake, and while we may be tired of remakes, we're not tired of remakes when they're in THREE FRICKIN' D!!!! Furthermore, all of this crazy new 3-D tech has brought us fun kiddie fare (Journey to the Center of the Earth) and animation (Beowulf) but not a slasher pic. And while the film is officially unrated, we're wondering how a slasher pic can't be rated R. Squirting blood in 3-D? Awesome. (And if this pic is true to its '80s roots, it probably means at least one shower scene. Hence, don't sit next to the man in the raincoat for this one.)

The picture stars hottie Jaime King as the "girl in trouble" and Jensen Ackles as the douche who caused the cave-in that killed everyone and created the monster.

Since the trailer to My Bloody Valentine 3-D doesn't exist yet - here's a look at the classic.

And, while we're at it, here's "Only Shallow" by My Bloody Valentine.
