There's an ancient Chinese curse that wishes you live in interesting times, summing the middle ages up pretty nicely. Between the constant warring, rampant disease and political egotism unmatched even by today's standards the years between 500 and 1600 AD were chock full of 'interesting times.' So interesting in fact we've been making movies and TV shows about them pretty much constantly for the last hundred years. From the earliest days of crank run cameras the stories of knights and princesses and castles and the Black Death made their way onto the silver screen. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Covering a thousand years of death and disease is a tough row to hoe for the middle ages, not a whole lot of yucks if you know what I mean. But thanks to Britain's famed comedy troupe we have at least one medieval comedy, Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
King Arthur travels around his country in search of knights to fill his round table, having various adventures and general silliness along the way. After gathering the rest of the comedy team as his knights, they are tasked by God himself to go on a quest for the famed Holy Grail. At this point the knights split up, each one having their own ridiculous escapade and hilarity ensues.
Holy Grail has become one of the most loved comedies of our times, regularly attracting millions of nerds to midnight screenings across the globe.
