The good folks over at Deadline are reporting that Kate Beckinsale might finally be taking a break from all that dreary Oscar-bait she's known for to finally branch out into some fun, action-packed genre fare. Word is that the Underworld actress has been offered a role in the new Colin Farrell-starring Total Recall remake.

The movie harkens back both to 1990, the year the original unimpeachably badass Total Recall was released, as well as to the early 2000s, back when folks thought it was a good idea to have Colin Farrell star in big-budget films. While there's little chance the remake could compete with the sheer Schwarzeneggerosity of the original, at least the addition of Beckinsale would pretty the place up significantly.

PLEASE let Beckinsale play this woman.

Beckinsale has previously worked with Total Recall director Len Wiseman on two commercially successful ongoing projects: The Underworld films and the two's marriage. Wiseman has reportedly offered the acrtress the role of Lori, the wife of Colin Farrell's main protagonist, meaning that our dream of a sexy Kuato is still no closer to becoming reality. If she accepts, Beckinsale would be following in the footsteps of Sharon Stone, who portrayed the character originally, and join a cast that already includes Farrell, Bryan Cranston and Jessica Biel.

For those unfamiliar with the original Total Recall, it, like seemingly half of Hollywood's science fiction output, is an adaptation of a Phillip K. Dick story. This particular one was called "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale. " The tale follows Doug Quaid, a construction worker whose visit to a memory implant clinic casts him down the rabbit-hole of Martian rebellion, corrupt government officials and three-breasted prostitutes. What's not to like?
