Joss Whedon's Cabin in the Woods Delayed For 3D Treatment

Joss Whedon's probably exhaustingly witty and oh-so-clever take on horror movies, The Cabin in the Woods, was all set to be released on February 5th. A nudge-nudge, wink-wink approach to the, well, "cabin in the woods" horror scenario, the film sold itself on the simple image of an isolated cabin and taglines like "If you hear a strange sound outside... have sex" and "If someone is chasing you... split up." It sounds like Scream kind of covered this territory almost 15 years ago, but test audiences have apparently gone through the roof over the thing -- which has resulted in the studio deciding to delay the film a year so it can be converted to 3D.

Um... okay? If advance buzz is so good, wouldn't you rather release the film as-is, like, now, and smile all the way to the bank? The decision has everyone wondering whether studio heads are the bigger fans of 3D than actual audiences, as 3D movies can't be pirated. Whatever's behind this rather head-scratching decision, Whedon fans will have to wait a little longer to hear his latest gang of youngsters make pithy comments in the face of danger.
