As Kick-Ass has shown, the superhero game isn’t simply limited to testosterone-charged boys – the girls out there can kick some ass in their own regard. Granted, Hit-Girl’s upbringing eschewed My Little Pony for My Little Semi-Automatic Handgun, but part of the fun of being a hero (or heroine) is developing your own origin, and of course, your own costume.
WIG & MASK: You’re not gonna be able to keep your gender a secret (and why would you want to?), but a great way to keep you identity a secret is a garish wig. Ricky’s costume store (fine purveyor of overpriced, slutty Halloween costumes since 1989!) should have you covered in both day-glo wigs and masquerade-style masks.
LEATHER JACKET: While in her civilian attire, Mindy Macready is just your typical little girl, but her Hit-Girl persona takes on a more Goth approach. The movement may be dead, but there’s still plenty of shops in New York that’ll have your black and purple hook-ups.
SKIRT: At the risk of earning a surprise visit from Chris Hansen, a plaid, Catholic School Girl style skirt can be a great distraction when you’re jumping into a gang of thugs. While you can probably find one at any uniform store, we quizzed a lady friend of ours and were directed to H&M – why not be fashionable?
BOOTS: Again, we could direct you to either a motorcycle supply company or into the dank Goth district of New York, but instead, let’s go sensible here and stick with a classic – Doc Martens! Sold throughout the country in various styles, you’re bound to find the perfect match to your cute-as-a-button superhero stylings!
