Director Tobe Hooper (Poltergeist, the original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) has signed a deal to helm an adaptation of Stephen King's From a Buick 8. Frequent King collaborator Mick Garris, who directed the ABC miniseries versions of The Stand, The Shining and King's Sleepwalkers movie, will serve as a producer on the Buick movie along with Johnathon Schaech and Richard Chizmar (the screenwriters that adapted the novel) and Etchie Stroh and Robert Katz.

The book tells the tale of a vintage Buick which is stored at a Pennsylvania State Patrol building. The automobile also has the power to manifest portals to another dimension where horrible creatures dwell as well as create "lightquakes" and other strange phenomena. After the car sits in the storage lot of the police detachment for three decades, the son of a deceased trooper becomes obsessed with understanding why this vehicle does what it does.

No start date for the horror film was given nor does it seem to have any actors attached to it yet.
