Yo ho! News today from the land down under -- Australian supermodel and aspiring actress Gemma Ward has signed on to play a mermaid in Disney's upcoming fourth installment of their Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
According to an exclusive report from Australia's Courier Mail, Ward has succumbed to the siren's call and will play a beautiful half-fish lady alongside French actress Astrid Bergès-Frisbey in a limited speaking role (one can only guess the mermaids aren't there for the talking). It stands as the first major role for Ward since playing the baby doll masked intruder in 2008's The Strangers.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is set to hit theaters in both 2D and 3D on May 20, 2011 and once again stars Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow and Geoffrey Rush as Captain Hector Barbossa.
