One of the best things about the movies is that it can help us experience things we're never going to go through in real life; for example, I know what it's like rescuing POW's from watching Rambo, but to be honest, it is unlikely the government will ever use me to run a one man combat mission to Vietnam. Another example would be the old drug freak-out... to date, I do not know what's like to vomit and pass out after doing too much heroin, but thanks to the movies, I don't have to wonder, I can see it for myself! Thank you, Hollywood! And, if you HAVE experimented with the chemical wonders our society has to offer, you can wistfully watch these films and think "Oh yes, I remember trying to cross the street on 'shrooms... ah, the halcyon days of youth..." I don't know if any commandos can say the same about watching Rambo, however.
