Top Crimes in Entertainment

With the release of American Gangster we reflect on great capers of the past.

In the words of the immortal Rob Halford, "Breakin' the law, breakin' the law." In this feature, we delineate the eleven best criminal acts to ever be performed in any media. From movie murders to comic book capers, with stops in the realms of video games, television and professional wrestling, this homicidal handbook will give any wanna-be G-man a crash course in the criminal mind. Let's just hope that no enterprising mind takes it upon themselves to enact these crimes in real life. That would suck.

Ozymandias Destroys New York, Watchmen

Some crimes are crimes against property. Some are crimes against a person. But it's a rare crime that qualifies as a crime against humanity. In the climax of Alan Moore's landmark epic Watchmen, the megalomaniacal Adrian Veidt, aka Ozymandias, engages his plan to teleport a genetically engineered superorganism to the middle of Times Square, wiping out most of the population of New York City. The worst thing about Veidt's act of genocide is that the lunatic believes that he's doing it for altruistic reasons. To unite humanity, he believes that they need a universal enemy to struggle against. As awesome in scope and concept as his scheme is, the most chilling moment is when it is revealed. After a chapter-long monologue to Rorschach and Nite Owl in which he lays out his plan, Nite Owl asks when he plans to carry out this awful act. His reply? "I did it thirty-five minutes ago." Cold, man.
