Among the niftiest things to look forward to in the next few months is a) waking up on 1/1 in a strange bed with a rug burn and a new friend and, b) the forthcoming 3-D stop motion animated film Coraline. Based on a novel by Neil Gaiman and directed by Henry Selick (he of The Nightmare Before Christmas fame), Coraline marks the first time a stop motion film has been shot specifically for 3-D. Special cameras were used that had heretofore only been used in doing MRIs. I'm serious. I've seen extended clips and I can tell you this movie is a visual feast that will blow your mind.
Coraline not only has broken boundaries in camera technique, it is changing the world of typography! Indeed - it would appear that Coraline now has its own font. Focus Features has released 26 alphabet cards onto the Internets and guess who gets the letter "U." That's right, the Utne Reader! So we went over to their place and beat the hell out of 'em and stole it from them!
All kidding aside, check out the artwork above and be sure to head over to the recently refreshed Coraline.com for info and clips of the movie.
