Kevin Feige took the stage of Hall H and 6500 eyes were upon him. A full day of waiting and violence-prompted delays led to this. What does Marvel have for us? Over heckles for "Ed Norton!" he asks the crowd, "Do you like combining Universes?"
How do you think a crowd of nerds reacts to a question like that?
Then a short teaser for The First Avenger: Captain America rolled:
We hear FDR's "Day That Will Live in Infamy" speech; we see shots of World War II superimposed over Cap's shield.
Then: a shadowy image of Captain America in silouhette. And:
NEXT SUMMER: THE FIRST AVENGER
(Great tagline.)
We wrap with a shot of Chris Evans coming into the light in the suit we've seen leaked. Frankly, it kinda looks like a fan film - but the coolest fan film ever.
It ends with Cap throwing the shield at the camera. That really gets the crowd going.
Chris Evans says they started shooting five days ago. Hugo Weaving says Red Skull's accent is based on Werner Herzog's. And Joe Johnston says he's a fan of Ed Brubaker's Captain America and the suit is "legendary." The place goes nuts. Evans has yet to do any filming in the suit and he has only worn test suits.
Next up: some really rough footage. With timecode!
Norway 1942: There's an old guy in a castle. A stone wall breaks down. In come Nazis and Hugo Weaving in a German accent. He opens a tomb. There's a white cube on top of a body.
"The Tesseract was the prize of Odin's collection." He goes on to say that he can't explain its magic. He breaks the cube, saying it is fake, and goes to a pair of doors to rip off the handles. "THIS is the Tesseract, "he says. He opens it and blue light pours out. The old man says, "That is not for your eyes!" He opens it anyway. And - BLACK.
