When Christopher Meloni left NBC's Law & Order: SVU last month, it came as a huge shock. Not only because the actor had been the show's lead since it began back in the heady days of Clinton-era America, but because there have been enough sex crimes to rip from the headlines to keep the show going for 12 years and counting. Now comes news that Meloni might be making his way back to the silver screen, as he's currently in negotiations for a "major role" in Man of Steel.
No word yet on who exactly Meloni would potentially play in the Zack Snyder Superman reboot, but given the actor's history playing a manipulative, violent, bisexual hustler on the HBO prison drama Oz, personally, we here at UGO think that he'd be a perfect for a new, edgy, oddly sexy take on Jimmy Olsen. Much to our disappointment, however, New York Magazine's Vulture Blog is now reporting that the actor will play a General of some sort. Definitely not General Zodd though - Boardwalk Empire's Michael Shannon called dibs on that role two months ago.

One of Oz's approximately 2,345 shower scenes.
If the once-and-future Chris Keller were to officially sign on to the project, he would join Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane and others. Filming begins in August of this year for a December 2012 release.
