There was mostly likely a time when people looked at the
work of Tim Burton and thought to themselves, "Now there's a man who'll never roll around naked in a pile of money!"
Turns out, however, the incredibly mediocre Alice
in Wonderland is making oodles and oodles of cash world-wide, and while we
can't say for sure that Burton has set his clothing aside for a dip in the
money-pool, he certainly has the option...
So count us refreshed then that Burton's next project seems
to be a return to one of the things that Burton does best: stop-motion
wizardly. According to Deadline, the director will be taking the reins on a 3-D
stop-motion adaptation of The Addams
Family, inspired by the original drawings of the series' creator, Charles
Adams. Disembodied hands, monstrous butlers and bald, pale-faced relatives
always seemed right up Burton's alley.
The original article succinctly points out Burton's expertise
within the format, stating, "Burton's experience in animated film is extensive.
He last directed Corpse Bride, and is
making a feature version of Frankenweenie, the
1984 30-minute short film Burton made about a boy who reanimates his dead dog.
That reportedly got him tossed off the Disney lot for making a film too
terrifying for a family audience, but the film has since become a cult
favorite. Burton recently produced 9,
as well as the delightful stop-motion animated The
Nightmare Before Christmas, for which he wrote the story."
Fingers crossed that unlike some of his more recent films,
he can actually make this one good...
