by K. Thor Jensen

We all know that it's the most important meal of the day, but did you also know that it's the most cinematic? Yes, dear reader, the proud tradition of breakfast has a storied cinematic heritage. Countless depictions of scrambling eggs, squeezing orange juice and sitting down to heaping bowls of cereal have been committed to celluloid, in slasher flicks and comedies, anime and documentaries. But what are the eleven best breakfasts in film history? We have developed an infallible system of rating big-screen breakfasts that takes into account every possible factor, from the pour of the coffee to the rustling of the newspaper, and generated a list of the eleven best breakfasts ever lensed. This is the Oscars of OJ, the Emmys of eggs, the Tonys of toaster strudel - these are UGO's Top 11 Movie Breakfasts.

Trainspotting

Danny Boyle's 1996 junkie-chic classic Trainspotting has a plethora of uncomfortable moments, both real and hallucinated. Sure, diving face-first into a toilet is pretty awful, but young Renton's experience after a night on the town (and a quick fling with a new bird) may be worse. After shagging the lovely Dianne, Renton is booted out of her bedroom nude and forced to sleep on a sofa. When he wakes up, do you think a nice plate of ham and eggs awaits him at the breakfast table? Not bloody likely - instead, he learns that Dianne is still below the age of consent and lives with her parents, and the resultant awkward moment is awesome. Couple that with his mate Spud's baked bean explosion after his night out (let's just say it's as physically messy as Renton's is emotionally messy) and you've got a breakfast twofer that's the stuff of legends.
