Might Thor be a prestige picture in disguise?

Brian Blessed is out, Anthony Hopkins is in.

It has been reported that Anthony Hopkins is now playing the role of Odin, the Thunder God's one-eyed pop in Thor.

Anthony Hopkins in a Kenneth Branagh film about classic mythology.  Dear God, might this be a comic book movie that my Mom will go see?

It crept up on us slowly, but, when you think about it, Thor has some of the trappings of a genuine prestige picture.

Classically trained British actors working from a "historic" text.

My snooty pants mother, who would never deign to see a Marvel Studios film, might actually get tricked into seeing this one.  She has no idea that Thor is a member of The Avengers - but has a soft spot for classic mythology.

I tried my best to convince her to see The Dark Knight ("it's a great procedural drama - just with guys in costumes!") but her close-mindedness dismissed it.

This time, however, I may be able to convince her that pop culture isn't all garbage.

Am I the only one who still stresses out about their parents thinking they have regressed, low-brow tastes, or have you all given up on that fight?

While you are chewing on that - be sure to check out our compendium of Thor spoilers.
