Of you've been checking out IMDB lately, you've probably seen that the new trailer for Solomon Kane is highlighted on the site's front page. This is a great big tease for US viewers itching to see the pistol-packing pilgrim fight some demons and save the day. Excluding Kull, Kane is the second most popular creation of Robert E. Howard after Conan the Cimmerrian. In brief: Solomon Kane's an itinerant Christian that kills demons at the expense of his own immortal soul.
US release be damned, it's hard to resist the charms of a good one-sheet (see right), let alone the promise of a new trailer and boy this one does not disappoint. In it, we see that A) the film has a sizeable budget B) there's a lot of demons in it C) the trailer doesn't give anything about the story away except an explanation of who the character is ("If I kill you, I am bound for Hell. It is a price I'll gladly pay.") D) the concept of a Christian zealot hacking and shooting his way through a horde of demons may in fact be pulled off given that its treated as pulp and not sincere proselytizing, a concession this trailer exhibits very nicely E) Whoa, Nellie, that's a lot of demons.
If anything should give fans pause, it's the fact that there's so many damn demons in this trailer. Meaning there's bound to be a ton more where they came from in the movie. Meaning that there's way too many demons in this movie. I know, I know, I'm American too and so should believe whole-heartedly that more is better, right? Well, no. Have ye forgotten about Spider-Man 3 so quickly? Meditate on that awhile and rewatch the trailer. Better yet, go read some of the original stories and get excited.
