If there's one thing we always say when watching episodes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, it's "Danny Devito is absolutely out of his mind." But if there's a second thing, it's almost usually, "Charlie Day should totally start being in big, high-budget action movies!" Apparently, it was our lips to Guillermo Del Toro's ears, because the actor is now in talks to join the cast of the upcoming Pacific Rim.
The film is a big-ass Summer movie about aliens and the giant technologically-advanced human-piloted robots that fight them, and is already set to star Sons of Anarchy's Charlie Hunnan, with The Wire and Thor's Idris Elba also in the running to join in the madness. The fine folks at Variety are telling us that Day's role is supposed to be some kind of professor, so we're going to go out on a limb and guess that it's probably of the nutty variety.

The inventor of Kitten Mittens is clearly a scientific mind to be reckoned with.
Pacific Rim will be directed by Del Toro himself, and released in the Summer of 2012, with filming scheduled to begin this coming Fall. We're excited about the prospect of Day coming on board, but honestly, we'd kind of rather it have been Fat Mac.
