I believe in Tim Burton.
Even his lesser movies (Sleepy Hollow, Corpse Bride) are worth repeated viewings, and when he’s really cookin’ (Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd, Ed Wood) his films are unmatched.
As someone who enjoyed his Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (being a vocal member of the Gene Wilder fan club, that’s saying something) I feel like Alice In Wonderland may very well be the adaptation Burton was born to make.
The first images are out (and in their high res glory at EW) and, for the most part, I’m even more enthused. The Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum shot especially delight, but that may be just my obese pride talking.
I can not lie, though, I am a little tweaked about how Johnny Depp looks. Could it be that this pair are trying a little TOO hard to outdo their prior collaborations? If the Mad Hatter’s role is expanded, I don’t know if I can take looking at him for that long. I mean, is it me, or doesn’t he kinda look like Roger Daltry from Ken Russell’s Lisztomania?
Alice in Wonderland is scheduled for release on March 5, 2010.
