The reasons this fan can't shut up about the digital Alice in Wonderland.

Because Sark Got High

It's easy to remember Tron as a groundbreaking, effects-driven '80s flick, light on plot and heavy in hammier than a New York deli dialogue...mostly because that's exactly what it was.

But the light plot was a gas and the hammy dialogue fun. Take the villainous Sark's Cheech and Chong-esque line reading. At the beginning of the film, Sark, aching to "blow people away,"  takes particular pleasure in the news that the Master Control Program has found him a new victim, responding with a rather stoned, "Niiiiiice".

Swearing in the Computer World

Tron alienates the mass audience by substituting well known English idioms with computer jargon. For those in the loop, understanding the dialogue feels empowering -- like understanding the handshake of a secret club.

When the MCP captures Crom, a compound interest program, and locks him up, Crom complains to fellow inmate Ram, "Who does he think he is sending me down here to play games? Who does he calculate he is?"

The Most Awesomely Absurd Transition Ever

In case audiences weren't able to piece together the subtle cut between arcade machine and neon-infused computer world, Tron provides a handy lower-third title card ensuring us that we're safe and sound back in "the real world."

8-Bit Torture

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World may dethrone Tron as the champion of films that translate old school video games' blocky aesthetic to the big screen, but Tron will live in second place. After all, it  was one of the first movies to take gamers and computer geeks seriously.

That particular group can understand, moreso than others, that when you start seeing a program's pixels, you know he's in a buttload of pain. Somebody blow the cartridge!

Flynn Beats Space Paranoids

My love for "The Dude" began a long time before The Big Lebowski.

Kevin Flynn's triumphant high score in Space Paranoids was a win for slacker gamers everywhere.
