20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Is Sunk

McG's boat has a leak.

The depth charges that are Hollywood studio changes have sunk the Nautilus.

McG’s planned remake of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea was said to be on a fast track at Walt Disney Pictures, until Dick Cook left the top position at the studio in September. The project, which had drafts by Randall Wallace (Braveheart) and Bill Marsilii (Deja Vu), was rumored to be a vehicle for Will Smith (see our talk at New York Comic-Con.)

Alas, that vehicle is now at the bottom of the Ocean.

Weep not for McG – he has a lot to keep him busy. He is working on a project written by Stephen Gaghan (of Traffic and Syriana fame) called Dead Spy Running and, theoretically, has Terminator 5.

Should Disney give up on 20,000 Leagues and just stick with Pirates, or should another director try and fill Captain Nemo’s center seat?
