Supporting Independent Cinema, Kinda

The outift that makes and distributes the Twilight films, Summit Entertainment, is what guys who read Variety call a "mini-major."  (These are the same people who talk about "ankling," though, so tread lightly.)

Were you to hang out at the IFC Center and call The Twilight Saga an indie, you'd run the risk of having some David Lynch coffee thrown in your face.  However, one can't argue that Twilight's success enabled the company to help push The Hurt Locker toward its Oscar and get co-productions like Roman Polanski's wonderful The Ghost Writer or John Woo's Red Cliff in theaters.

Also:  those with sharp eyes may've noticed a poster for the delightful indie horror pic Pontypool in the background when Bella and Jacob go to the movies in New Moon.  How awesome was that?
