Road to WrestleMania is the story mode of the SmackDown vs. Raw franchise, and in recent years you’ve been able to follow a select group of some of the most popular WWE Superstars as they fight their way to the top. While the game’s developers at THQ are staying tight-lipped about who the mode will feature, we do know that Road to WrestleMania has some serious improvements coming its way.
While past years have seen you take your character backstage in the Road to WrestleMania mode, you’ve always been at the mercy of the game’s storyline. In SmackDown vs. Raw 2011, however, you’ll have free-roaming access to the locker room, the boss’ office and even the garage/loading areas. But the story doesn’t stop as you wander, since you might stumble onto your fellow wrestlers interacting with each other or even get pulled into a backstage brawl.
All of the above changes your path on the game’s branching storyline, as you upgrade your character and unlock new abilities. Luckily, it’s always easy to go back and try things a different way with the game’s Bill & Ted-esque time machine, conveniently located in the locker room.
