The World

The world of the Norse gods was one of constant combat - the clash of swords and the quaffing of mead were two of a Viking's greatest joys. And once they returned from their epic raiding parties, they'd pay tribute to a group of warriors even greater - the Gods of Asgard. These hard-partying deities were just like Vikings writ large - they fought, they drank, and they protected their Norse followers from catastrophe. Living in the realm of Asgard, connected with Earth by the rainbow bridge Bifrost, the gods welcomed warriors killed in combat to Valhalla, the final resting place of the brave.

Too Human casts these Norse gods as cybernetically enhanced protectors of isolated pockets of humanity in a world that has been ravaged by mysterious machine hordes. Even the Aesir are not fully aware of their origins, having been created from nothingness and tasked with a life of endless warfare. Some are warriors, some are adepts of Yggdrasil, the great world-tree that dispenses technology, and some are heads of massive corporations. All of their civilization is located in an orbital facility high above the Earth's surface, connected by an orbital tower - Bifrost. On the ground, the gods reside in the Hall of the Aesir, where humans can come and ask their lords for boons and favors. And dotting the planet are "wells," from which adepts can access the mysterious realm of cyberspace.

Most interesting is the portrayal of the lord of the Norse Gods, Odin - instead of a half-blind man, ODIN now stands for Organically Distributed Intelligence Network - some sort of complex nanomechanical computer, ODIN has not yet been glimpsed in physical form, choosing instead to be represented by his ravens, Hugin and Mugin. In the Too Human universe, ODIN created the gods of Asgard from whole cloth, and we're willing to bet that there's more than a few secrets resting in his history.
