Split Second, an upcoming racing game developed by Black Rock Studio, will be released in North America on Tuesday, May 18 and in Europe on May 21. Known as Split Second: Velocity overseas, the game has already received praise and acclaim, winning the Game Critics Award in 2009 and the Best Racing Game of E3.
Published by Disney Interactive Studios, Split/Second is unlike many other popular racing games. Players participate in races set within a fictional reality television show and are able to perform stunts and precision driving. By navigating difficult feats like drifting and jumps, drivers build up their powerplay meter - which helps them trigger events like building collapses, airplane crashes and explosions. The game is divided into several seasons of 24 episodes each. Three races make up one episode.
Racers receive money, fame and glory if they successfully navigate the courses and thwart competing drivers.
Split/Second is rated E10+ for everyone 10 and older. The game will be available for Xbox 360 ($59.99), PlayStation 3 ($59.99) and Windows PC ($49.99).
