We all love Soul Calibur IV. The huge cast of characters combined with the series' signature weapons-based fighting has kept us glued to our consoles for hours on end--I still have it sitting in my disc tray at home. But the real hook of this latest installment has to be the character creator that was introduced in Soul Calibur III. With just a little creativity, fans have churned out custom characters that draw their inspiration from across the spectrum of media. Comics, movies, celebrities, other games... if you can think of someone that you want to fight as (or against), chances are you can put together some resemblance of them with the toolset the developers provided.

Origin: Celebrity/Religious Figure

Why Jesus: Is there really any reason to discount the Son of God wielding a Scythe? Jesus comes in at number 50 on our list because he's just the kind of fighter you run across that makes you second guess opening that can of whoopass you have prepared. This heroic savior-turned-fighter may not be your salvation, but at least you know he'll get you pointed in the right direction after he impales you on his blade. If you plan on taking him down, pick up Xianghua, at least she'll say "I'm Sorry."

Origin: Book - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Why Harry Potter: To be honest we thought that the young wizard would be higher on our list, but this unfortunate rendition of The Boy who Lived reminds us more of a Breath of Fire character than Daniel Radcliffe. Sure he's sporting the Griffindor red and gold, but his hair is looking a little blue... and Seong Mi-na has a broom weapon, why didn't the creator use that? Oh well, this Harry still makes the list because we want to bring him pain. Crucio!

Origin: Game - Mortal Kombat

Why Sub-Zero: He can rip off your head with your spine still attached. Sub-Zero won over a number of gamers in the first Mortal Kombat with his ice blasts and awesome Fatality but the developers chose to re-imagine Sub-Zero in the following sequels. This recreation of the original fighter definitely deserves some bonus points for his white eyes and chilly Soul Edge. Maybe if you get a ring out against him he'll fall in the pit.

Origin: Comic - Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos #1 (May 1963)

Why Nick Fury: It's a shame that the character creator doesn't allow for highlights in hair, because this Nick Fury is nearly spot-on--we just need the white streaks on either side of his head. The Agent of Shield serves as the link between many of the Marvel heroes and the United Nations while still jumping into the action from time to time. Maybe he also sensed the disturbance caused by the Soul Edge and has joined the fight to set things right. With Cervante's move-set, Fury even has a gun to pull out should the need arise.

Origin: Anime - Samurai Champloo

Why Jin: This mild-mannered ronin is a perfect match for Mitsurugi's samurai sword. I first encountered the warrior after Rusty kicked my ass with him in a private match. While he may be quiet and bookish, this samurai-in-glasses will have no problem dispatching you with just a few quick strokes. We love him because Samurai Champloo is one of the best animes we've seen in years.
