What It Is: Neuromancer is a super complex title suitable for only the nerdiest, graph
paper-equipped gamers. It's an adventure that takes place in both reality and
the matrix, a term for cyberspace used before the movie was a twinkle in Keanu
Reeves' eye. You are a resident of Chiba
City, a place that
reflects the gritty urban future foreseen by Blade Runner and the ilk.
Why It Is Neato: Interplay developed it. You guys, Interplay
is so awesome. They made Descent, The Lost Vikings, Fallout (later sold to Bethesda
for you to have Fallout 3), Earthworm Jim, MDK, Carmageddon....man, they ruled so much. Right now they are
making Fallout Online, an MMO they
had to license their former property back from Bethesda to make. But the weirdest thing
about this game? It was published by Mediagenic-a name Activision used to go
by. Yep, Activision once made games like this!
Why Else It Is Neato: Neuromancer is
a tight game loosely based on William Gibson's seminal cyberpunk novel of the
same name. Devo did the soundtrack. Timothy Leary owned the game rights. The
combination of these three factors make it one of the hippest games of all
time.
