Electronic Arts has finally cleared up what's been an open question for a number of weeks now: With the new NBA Jam reboot originally planned to be a free bonus in copies of NBA Elite 11 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, in what form would it hit those
platforms now that NBA Elite 11 has been delayed? Answer: A standalone
disc-based release.
Rumors of such a decision picked up steam earlier this week when Gamefly showed box covers in their listings for NBA Jam on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Speaking with Kotaku,
EA Sports Vancouver's Jen Riley explained there's a simple reason for
that: "The fact that retailers are showing the box is because we are
shipping Jam in a box on [Xbox 360 and PS3]," Riley said. "We just
haven't announced a firm date."
A projected price wasn't given, either, nor was there any
confirmation that the 360 and PS3 versions would include any extra
features that the downloadable Wii version didn't have. And while
there's no firm date yet, EA Sports president Peter Moore did say that
they want it out on the 360 and PS3 "in time for the holidays," back
when he confirmed it would be released separately from NBA Elite 11.
So when that firm date comes along, we'll pass it on.
